California: In a historic pivot, Nvidia has announced it will begin manufacturing its powerful AI chips and supercomputers in the United States — a first for the company as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure surges worldwide.
The California-based chip giant revealed plans Monday to produce its next-gen Blackwell chips in Arizona and build AI supercomputers in Texas, partnering with Foxconn (Houston) and Wistron (Dallas) to bring these high-performance systems to life. The company said it has secured over one million square feet of U.S. manufacturing space — a move expected to fuel up to $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure over the next four years.
“The engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the United States for the first time,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. “American manufacturing strengthens our supply chain, boosts resiliency, and helps us meet skyrocketing global demand.”
This bold shift aligns with escalating U.S. efforts to reclaim dominance in the semiconductor race. As the Trump administration continues reshaping trade and tech policies, new tariffs are looming over imported semiconductors. While some electronics temporarily dodge these levies, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed on Sunday that chip-specific tariffs are “coming in a month or two.”
Nvidia has already begun Blackwell production at TSMC’s facility in Phoenix and will work with Taiwan-based SPIL and Amkor for chip packaging and testing in Arizona. Mass production is expected to ramp up in 12 to 15 months, with Nvidia promising “hundreds of thousands of jobs” and economic impact reaching into the trillions.
The White House called Nvidia’s decision “the Trump Effect in action,” pointing to earlier AI-focused investments like the $100B Stargate venture — a joint push by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank to supercharge America’s AI infrastructure from the ground up.
