New Delhi: Spotify Wrapped, your annual music recap, tracking all of your top songs, artists, and genres, will soon be on your feed. To the dismay of many users, the rumor that Spotify had stopped tracking listeners’ data starting October 31 had a response from the company in the form of a lighthearted Halloween post on X that dismissed such speculation and told its users that “Spotify Wrapped doesn’t stop counting on October 31st”.
The Wrapped Experience, launched in 2016, is an event that Spotify users eagerly look forward to every year – a review of their music habits over the past 12 months. In addition to sharing a visual breakdown of top tracks, artists, and podcasts, Spotify curates playlists of users’ 100 most-streamed songs and reveals fun insights, like whether they’re in the top 1% of certain fan groups. Annual reports have been the traditional entry point, launched between late November and early December of each year. Last year’s Wrapped, for example, was released on 29 November.
Wrapped data historically spans January 1 to a date in the fall, although fans assumed that date may end on October 31, as promised previously. The company hasn’t confirmed the end date for this year but assures fans that any listening activity past Halloween will count.
For those anxiously awaiting their 2024 Wrapped, no extra work is required—Spotify will send users an in-app notification when it becomes available. Apple Music customers will receive a similar wrap-up through Apple Music Replay, which Apple introduced in 2019 as a counterpoint to Wrapped, and currently also provides a monthly summary besides the annual one.
One of the most treasured traditions, Spotify Wrapped continues to delight listeners as they can celebrate their tastes in music and share with friends and on social media. The launch is just weeks away.
