New Delhi: The final day of the 8th Edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024, Asia’s largest telecom, media, and technology forum ended with an appeal for policymakers and business leaders to increase cooperation to push for innovation and digital transformation.
The event, co-organized by the Department of Technology (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), was attended with a focus on public-private partnerships, which brought out a need for road mapping advanced technologies, such as 5G, AI, and digital infrastructure.
Spectrum management and its significance to India’s $1 trillion digital economy were the focus of one of the main talks. The crucial importance of a strong digital public infrastructure was highlighted by Sh. Manish Sinha, Member (F) of the Department of Telecommunications. He also highlighted the value of corporate, academic, and research partner engagement and how to integrate growing services while maintaining a balance in spectrum allocation.
Additionally, Lt. Gen. Dr. S.P. Kochhar, COAI, emphasized the necessity of reducing the difference between costs and revenues in the 5G deployment, suggesting that over-the-top (OTT) platforms split infrastructure expenses. He also drew attention to India’s spectrum shortfall, encouraging the country to allot an extra 1,200 Megahertz to fully utilize 5G.
The leaders also talked about measures to stop cyber fraud, with Reliance Jio President U.K. Srivastava emphasizing cooperation with the government to obstruct unauthorized messages and fraudulent phone numbers. Driven by the Department of Technology (DoT), this program seeks to improve user security in India’s rapidly expanding digital market.
